The St. Lawrence River is an integral part of the history of the people inhabiting its majestic shores, and has been since the very first settlements. From Champlain to the Kirke brothers, through William Phips and the Count of Frontenac, to name no others, the River has played a significant role in the many events that have shaped Quebec.

On the occasion of the 400e anniversary of the founding of Québec City, the Naval Museum of Quebec at the Pointe-à-Carcy presents a series of exhibitions and activities, deeply immersed into Quebec's military heritage, all the while showing panoramas of Canadian naval history. The exchanges between the sailors fighting on this battlefield, be they Champlain and the brothers Kirke, Phips and Frontenac, or many others, were sometimes courteous, sometimes diplomatic, as ships and other possessions are in the middle of these historic talks, and sometimes change hands.
