"May 13, 1942
(?) later in the middle of the Gulf of the St. Lawrence a cargo ship named "Nicoya" was torpedoed. On the way to England, she was carrying 2000 tons of bacon on board – The mail of a great number of soldiers. Eight survivors were taken to our hospital, victims of (?), all came through it without major injuries. However, some members of the ship's complement are reported missing. We were happy to provide medical services and to offer our sympathy. Some Catholics amongst them were particularly grateful for the care they received.
